ABOUT

During my time at GTCC I assisted my site supervisor Melissa Cox with directing students to the testing center, sat in meetings with Ms. Cox and various students, as well as developed a staff training to better educate instructors on how to teach students with various disabilities. The training that I designed included a broad general overview of DAS and the services they provide to accommodate students with disabilities. This training will be later added as a part of new employee orientation at GTCC. In addition to the training I also designed a resource page on moodle where instructors are able to click on which disability their students may have and learn more about the specific disability and the various ways they can accommodate those students so they may be successful in their class.

Melissa Cox: DAS Services Specialist/Advisor

The moodle resource page labled as ADA and Disability services is an online resource that falculty and staff at GTCC can use to help better understand the disabled population at GTCC and how to better accommodate them in their classrooms

The moodle resource page is broken down by disability or impairment type so that instructors will know where to quickly go to find information on that specific disability.

Under each tab is a brief discription of the disability and how it may affect individuals diagnsoed with it. There are also seperate pages with information including sings and symptoms, diagnosis, and most importantly in-class accommodations.

Each tab also has outise resources that instructors can cick on to take them to other websites or videos detailing the specific disability.

Each tab or disability in the moodle page also features a link to "From Where I Sit" a series of videos put together by the California State University. Each video details an individuals story and how they deal with their specific disability in higher education. Within the videos the students themselves offer suggestions that would make the educational process more inclusive to them.
